What is Title I?
R.N. Fickett Elementary School is identified as a Title I school as part of the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA). Title I is designed to support State and local school reform efforts tied to the challenging State academic standards to improve teaching and learning for students. Title I programs must be based on effective means of improving student achievement and include strategies to support family engagement. All Title I schools must jointly develop with parents and family members a written parent and family engagement policy.
School Plan for Shared Student Achievement
What is it?
This is a plan that describes how R.N. Fickett Elementary School will provide opportunities to improve parent and family engagement to support student learning. Fickett values the contributions and engagement of parents to establish an equal partnership for the common goal of improving student achievement. This plan describes the different ways that R. N. Fickett Elementary School will support parent engagement and how parents can help plan and participate in activities and events to promote student learning at school and at home.
How is it developed?
R.N. Fickett Elementary School invited all parents to attend our School Wide Planning and Budget meeting to review and revise this parental engagement plan, our school-parent compact and the parental and family engagement budget. Additionally, parent input and comments regarding this plan are welcome during the school year through an online form. The plan is posted on our school Web site for parents to view and submit feedback throughout the year. All parent feedback received during the year will be used to revise the plan for the next school year. We also distribute an annual survey online and by mail to ask parents for their suggestions on the plan and the use of funds for parental and family engagement. Parents can also give feedback during several parent meetings and activities during the school year.
Who is it for?
All students participating in the Title I, Part A program, and their families, are encouraged and invited to fully participate in the opportunities described in this plan. R.N. Fickett Elementary School will provide full opportunity for the participation of parents with limited English, parents with disabilities and parents of migratory children.
Where is it available?
The plan is posted to the school Website, emailed to all parents, distributed at the Annual Title I meeting. Parents can also retrieve a copy in the Parent Resource Center.
Academic Achievement Goals
APS Mission: Through a caring culture of equity, trust, collaboration, every student will graduate ready for college, career, and life.
APS Vision: A high-performing school district where students love to learn, educators inspire, families engage, and the community trust the system.
School Goals: Fickett administrators and Leadership team have studied our performance data. Goals extracted from our school-wide plan are highlighted below. By the end of the 2025 school year, we will:
Based on the 2025 CCRPI report, increase the CCRPI performance indicators in reading and mathematics by 5 %
Reading Focus (K-5) – Read for fluency and comprehension.
Mathematics Focus (K-5) – Solve mathematics word problems using addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, and math fluency. Focus on increasing math skills.
School-Parent Compacts
As part of this plan, R.N. Fickett Elementary School and our families will develop a school-parent compact. It is an agreement that explains how parents, teachers, and students work together to ensure that our students reach grade-level standards. The compacts are reviewed and updated annually based on feedback from parents, students, and teachers during the School-wide Planning meeting and in school forums. Parents and teachers work diligently to create compacts. A copy of the school-parent compact brochure is distributed to every family.

Parent and Family Engagement
R.N. Fickett Elementary School believes that parent engagement means the participation of parents in two-way communication involving student academic learning and other school activities, including ensuring:
• Parents play a role in assisting in their child’s learning.
• Parents are encouraged to be actively involved in their child’s education at school and home.
• Parents are full partners with the school and are included in decision-making and on advisory committees to assist in the education of their child.
• The carrying out of other activities as described in this plan.
R.N. Fickett Elementary School is Branching Out
We will take the following measures to promote and support parents as an important foundation of the school in order to strengthen the school and reach our school goals. We will:
- Solicit parent input concerning the means by which the school and parents can form a partnership to achieve the Title l program’s objectives, as well as allow time for school staff to respond to parent’s recommendations. All meetings will be promoted through personal letters, telephone calls, news media, flyers, etc.
- Ensure that all parents are invited to the annual Title l meeting at a convenient time for them, so that we may explain the programs and activities provided through Title l, Federal guidelines, and to understand the role of all parents in the education of their children.
- Provide parents with timely information and offer flexible meetings for parents; as early as 7:45 a.m. and as late as 3:00 p.m., Monday through Friday, to afford parents the opportunity to attend meetings according to their home and work schedules.
- Partner with Head Start and Early Reading programs by conducting joint staff meetings for parents and sending school information about parent engagement activities to help prepare parents and their child for kindergarten and improve school transition.
- Work with our staff to develop relevant trainings and helpful presentations to educate our staff on the importance of parental involvement.
- Make available necessary materials and handouts for parents at conferences, meetings, and activities to help parents work with their child to improve their child’s achievement.
- Use our Partners in Education and Parent Advisory Committee (PAC) to improve the awareness of activities and events listed in the school parental involvement policy.
- Offer literacy and technology classes for parents to help further enhance their various educational levels.
- Share information on the school blog and school newsletter for parents to understand the school’s academic standards and assessments as well as the ways parents can monitor their child’s progress and work with educators.
- Collect feedback from parents at all events by providing input cards and posting suggestions on the school’s website to respond to parental requests for family engagement activities.
