Parent Resources

This section provides important information and resources to help families stay informed, connected, and actively involved in their child’s education.

Here you will find our Family Engagement Plan, which outlines how we work together with parents to support student learning; our Parent Compact, which highlights the shared responsibilities between the school, parents, and students; guidelines for paying school fees; our Cell Phone Policy, which helps ensure a focused and respectful learning environment; and other helpful information when it becomes available.

We encourage you to review each resource carefully and reach out if you have any questions.

Understanding Your Child’s MAP Growth Report

At Fickett Elementary School, we use MAP Growth assessments to help us better understand how students are learning and growing throughout the school year. These assessments measure both achievement and academic growth, helping teachers tailor instruction and set goals that support each child’s success.

What is in the report?

A summary of how your child is performing academically, as measured by the most recent MAP Growth test.

What is MAP Growth?

MAP Growth is an assessment that measures student progress in subjects like reading and mathematics over time. Instead of focusing on a single test score, MAP Growth tracks how much a student improves from one testing period to another.

Why is my child taking MAP Growth?

MAP Growth scores help teachers check student performance by measuring Achievement and Growth. Teachers use results to tailor classroom lessons and to set goals for students.

What is a RIT Score?

Students receive a RIT score, which is part of a scale used to measure academic performance and growth. This score helps teachers understand a student’s current level of learning and determine the next steps for instruction.

What Do Percentiles Mean?

You may also see a percentile ranking on your child’s report. This shows how your child performed compared to other students in the same grade nationwide.

For example:

  • A 78th percentile means a student performed better than 78% of students nationwide in that subject.
  • A 57th percentile means a student made more progress than 57% of their peers.

What do Achievement and Growth mean?

  • Achievement: How well your child has learned skills in a subject compared to similar students nationwide.*
  • Growth: A measure of your child's personal progress over the year.

*Similar students-kids with same starting RITscore, same number of weeks of instruction, and In the same grade
